In a follow-up tweet, she said Snap would remain her ‘first love’. Celebrities aren’t the only ones upset with the redesign. At present, though the BJP is the single largest party in the House with 58 members, four more than the Congress (54), the entire Opposition put together has greater numerical strength, which is why it calls the shots. The Congress, which suffered a series of electoral reverses since the 2014 General Elections, is likely to win just seven of the 59 Rajya Sabha seats, sources in the know said. “The BJP will gain further and the NDA will come close to the UPA. EXPRESS READ SC Collegium recommends promotion to 37 additional judges in five high courts New Delhi: The Supreme Court Collegium of Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justices J Chelameswar and Ranjan Gogoi has unanimously recommended to the Centre to appoint 37 additional judges – including five women judges – serving across five high courts of Allahabad, Kerala, Gujarat, Rajasthan and Bombay as permanent judges. P11 Make noise at right time: Rajini Chennai: Rajinikanth said efforts were on to build a strong foundation for his political party and asked his fans to “make noise at the right time.” He also praised Kamal Haasan, who launched his political party, Makkal Neethi Mayyam, saying the “efficient” star would earn people’s confidence. Rajini has been roped in by Sun Pictures, to play the lead role in director Karthik Subbaraj’s movie. Congress leader, who did not wish to be named, told this newspaper on Friday . In other words, the Opposition’s ability to block or delay key legislations like the insurance bill, the Goods and Services Tax (GST) bill, or the one on Triple Talaq would weaken while the NDA would be more confident while piloting bills or taking up issues of public interest. In the Lok Sabha, the NDA has been able to have its way as it enjoys brute majority but not so in , the Rajya Sabha. The terms of 58 Rajya Sabha members from 16 states is due to expire in April-May, which will throw up big vacancies in Uttar Pradesh (10), Maharashtra (6), Bihar (6), Madhya Pradesh (5), West Bengal (5) and Gujarat (4). Of them, the BJP will get at least eight in UP, three in Maharashtra with one to ally Shiv Sena, three in Bihar, four in Madhya Pradesh and two in Gujarat. The Congress hopes to make some gains in Gujarat (2), Maharashtra (1), Karnataka (3) and Madhya Pradesh (1). In the 245-member Upper House, the UPA has around 122 and the NDA 93. Over the past several sessions, the Opposition has been able to disrupt proceedings in the Upper House for days on end seeking accountability from the government while the BJP tried to paint them as anti-development. While BJP’s Venkaiah Naidu is chairman of the Rajya Sabha being the Vice-President of India, party chief Amit Shah too is a member of the Upper House. With the altered power equations, political discourse in the Upper House could get shriller in the run up to the 2019 General elections, the sources added. While the official statement at the end of the task force’s meeting on Friday makes no mention of Pakistan, sources say it indeed is on the grey list, which would make it harder for the country’s banks to handle international transactions and rattle foreign investors and companies. It would also make it more expensive to get and repay loans from international lenders like the IMF and the World Bank. The decision comes days after jubilant claims by Pakistan’s foreign minister Khawaja Asif that Pakistan had been given a threemonth reprieve following objections from China, Saudi Arabia and the Gulf Cooperation Council and Turkey . This resulted in hundreds of vehicles, heading towards Kerala, getting grounded at check posts. Five vehicles that entered Kerala through Meenakshipuram were damaged after Janata Dal party cadres pelted stones. According to sources, Janata Dal party meeting in Chittur headed by the Janata Dal MLA K Krishnan Kutty decided to block roads at Tamil Nadu - Kerala border for 24 hours from Friday. However, this was not publicised among people in Tamil Nadu. As per the decision, political party cadres and farmers blocked the roads at check posts on Tamil Nadu - Kerala border at 20 locations including Meenak- shipuram, Gopalapuram, Govindapuram, Pollachi, Nadumuni and Velanthavalam. Since, no one in Tamil Nadu was aware of it, all vehicles headed towards Kerala were stopped at borders from Thursday night onwards. Upon receiving the information, Tamil Nadu police rushed to the spot and stopped all vehicles at the check posts itself. Among the 21 check posts, bordering Tamil Nadu - Kerala in the Coimbatore district, 20 routes to Kerala were blocked and only Walayar check post was kept open. As tension prevailed in the bordering areas, Tamil Nadu and Kerala police beefed up their strength and pacified people along the border areas. Though the protesters were removed from the border, Tamil Nadu police diverted all vehicles towards Walayar route to Kerala and no vehicle entered Kerala through the remaining routes. P7 Stone pelting A few vehicles travelling in the Meenakshipuram route were damaged by stone pelting and the drivers retreated to Coimbatore. Sources said, there had been an agreement between the Tamil Nadu and Kerala State in the PAP that about 7.25 Thousand Million Cubic (TMC) Feet of water would be released annually from the Aliyar dam based journalist, told TNIE. “Apart from it being a huge international embarrassment, this will cripple us economically and , also impact the elections expected later this year. It also comes at a time when our aid from our erstwhile ally, the US, has all but dried up, and our balance of payments has increased manifold. The government now needs to get its act together because, the way things are going, we could soon be declared a terror state.” Pakistan was previously on the list for three years until 2015 by the FATF, which sets global standards for fighting illicit finance and recommends measures to stem terrorist funding.
