Performers act out a scene during the closing ceremony of the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea, Sunday | PTI CHENNAI l MONDAY l FEBRUARY 26, 2018 l `4.00 l PAGES 36 l LATE CITY EDITION Flagship Program of Noorul Islam Centre for Higher Education - NIUSAT NIUSAT –Student Satellite NIUSAT Mission Objective To realize a three axis stabilized satellite by the students of the University to provide multispectral imaginaries for agricultural crop monitoring and for Disaster Management Support Applications. Overture On 26th December 2004, Tsunami struck the shores of India. The devastation to life and property was shocking and terrifying. The Chancellor of Noorul Islam Centre for Higher Education was acutely aware of the lack of prediction systems in Tamil Nadu. Therefore, an earnest investigation into the possibilities of prediction of natural calamities became a disturbing botheration with the institution. With such high goals as to protect the lives and properties and even infrastructure during natural disasters, the NIU, ventured into building and launching a Nano Satellite into space with the support of space organizations of the Indian Government. A generic Nano Satellite called NIUSAT is developed by the NIUSAT Components faculty and students of Noorul Islam Centre for Higher Education in collaboration with ISRO, incorporating all the features of an operational satellite with full redundancy and with the capability to accommodate any kind of payload on the payload deck. The First NIUSAT mission is planned with a miniature three band multispectral Camera developed in collaboration with SAC, Ahmeda- bad and is slated for launch on 23rd by various wireless sensor June 2017 by PSLV launch Vehicle. Future Project NIUSAT Mark - II The NIUSAT- Mark 2 is planned to accommodate a store and forward payload to collect data from various gateway points across the country. In addition to the NIUSAT Internal Assembly primary objective, the NIUSAT is proposed to be used as a data network (WSN) nodes spread all reception, storage and forward over the country for the collection of environmental data like green house and other polluting gases and uplinked to NIUSAT through transmission gateways located at few places. It is proposed to collect the above environmental data on a day to day basis. The stored data is re-transmitted to the ground station periodically or wherever the Nano NIUSAT FM after Final Integration terminal to receive the en- satellite passes over the ground vironmental data collected station.
