After his meeting with the L-G on Friday, Kejriwal alleged Baijal refused to follow the SC verdict on services department saying he would only follow the guidelines of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). “The SC very clearly said that barring three subjects — land, public order and police — executive powers lie with the elected government,” said Kejriwal. He alleged MHA advised the L-G to ignore that part of the SC order, which restricts L-G’s powers to three subjects. “Very dangerous that central government advising L-G not to follow SC’s orders. Have sought time from Rajnath Singh to urge him to fol- low SC’s orders,” he tweeted. However, MHA sources denied the allegations terming Kejriwal’s statement as misleading. “MHA has only advised the L-G, based on a reference received from him, to follow the law. This advice is based on the law ministry’s opinion that the Constitution bench has clearly ordered that the matter be placed before the appropriate regular bench. In fact, it would be against the law to take a final view on the matter related to services which is still pending before the regular Bench,” said a senior official. On his part, Baijal quoted from the judgment. “Set-up in NCT of Delhi is one where the Council of Ministers headed by the CM on the one hand and L-G on the other are a team, a pair on bicycle built for two with the President as its rider who retains general control. Then he was forced to relinquish direct control over his party the Pakistan , Muslim League-Nawaz; he is now running it by proxy . On Friday an anti-graft court , sentenced Nawaz Sharif (68) to 10 years rigorous imprisonment (RI) in one of the three corruption cases against him. It also shut the door on Sharif promoting daughter and heir apparent Maryam (44) in the party hierarchy by awarding her seven years RI and a fine of two million pounds, as she is a co-accused in the case. For the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, the verdict was a body blow as parliamentary elections are barely two-and-ahalf weeks away . Maryam’s husband Capt (retd) Muhammad Safdar, too, was awarded one year in jail for not cooperating with the antigraft authorities. After the verdict, Maryam and Safdar were disqualified from contesting the upcoming elections. The case involves ownership of four apartments in the tony Avenfield House area in London owned by Sharif. The court ordered the government to confiscate the properties. Media reports suggested three-term PM Sharif and Maryam were in their Avenfield apartment when the verdict was announced. A few months ago, Sharif had left for London to be with his wife Kulsoom who was diagnosed with throat cancer last year. Sharif ’s sons Hassan and Hussain were the other co-accused, but they never appeared before Islamabad-based accountability court judge Mohammad Bashir and were declared absconders. HUMAN VULTURE Principal turns predator, rapes Class X girl for seven months A N A N D S T D A S @ Patna A Class X girl student of a private school in Bihar’s Saran district was allegedly raped by 15 male students and three teachers, including the principal on the school premises for the past seven months. Unable to endure the trauma any more, the 14-year-old girl approached the police along with her father on Friday and lodged an FIR against the 15 male students, the principal and two assistant teachers of the school. A team of policemen led by SDPO Ajay Kumar Singh reached the school, Dipeshwar Bal Vidya Niketan, at Parsagarh under Ekma police station and arrested four people named in the victim’s FIR after interrogating them briefly . “School principal Uday Kumar Singh, teacher Balajee and two male students have been arrested. The 14 other accused are absconding. Raids are being conducted to arrest them,” said Ekma police station SHO Anuj Kumar Singh. Her ordeal began in December last when five boys raped her in the school toilet and captured it on their mobile phone. They used the video clip to blackmail her and raped her many times along with other male students of the school. “When the video clip reached the principal and two teachers about 17 days later, the trio also blackmailed and began raping her for months on the school premises,” said a police official citing the victim’s statement. After the victim’s father, who works outside Bihar, returned earlier this week, she revealed the traumatic experience. She and her father then went to the school and confronted the three accused teachers, but the fatherdaughter duo was manhandled and driven out of the school, said police sources. CHURNING IN BIHAR AS PASWAN JUNIOR LOOKS AT SYNERGY WITH TEJASHWI E X P R E S S N E W S S E R V I C E @ Patna RJD leader Raghuvansh Prasad Singh sent ripples through Bihar’s political circles on Friday saying the Lok Janshakti Party, led by Union minister Ram Vilas Paswan, would quit NDA and join the ‘grand alliance’ led by the RJD. Paswan, however, rubbished the claims. “Paswan is known as the weather scientist in politics. He has already assessed the situation in NDA and is ready to switch over to our alliance,” claimed Singh, national vicepresident of RJD and a former Union minister. Singh’s words created a buzz because LJP MP Chirag Paswan, the party chief ’s son, recently said in a television interview that he wouldn’t mind working with RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav for the sake of Bihar’s progress. This lent further credence to reports of the LJP chief being unhappy with the BJP over seatsharing for the next Lok Sabha polls and he and Bihar CM Nitish Kumar planning to quit the NDA together. But Ram Vilas Paswan strongly denied any such plans. “This is only an empty speculation. LJP is a strong part of the NDA. I am sure there will be no difficulties in sharing seats among the NDA partners in Bihar,” he said. Incidentally, Paswan’s son-inlaw and Dalit Sena president Anil Kumar Sadhu had joined the RJD in March. HORROR HOUSE Flutter over woman tantrik angle in Burari EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE @ New Delhi THE Delhi police on Friday detained a few persons, including a “female occult practitioner”, in an attempt to unravel the mystery behind the death of 11 members of a family in Burari. Over 100 people have been questioned so far, based on the call records accessed by the police. Among those detained were contractor Kunwar Pal who built the horror house that had 11 mystery pipes and his daughter Geeta, a self-styled god-woman. Geeta is said to have met Lalit Singh Chundawat, one of the 10 found hanging from an ironmesh in the ceiling on July 1. Lalit was the organiser of what they called a “thanksgiving ritual” that ended in tragedy . There has been a lot of speculation over the pipes, since the number corrosponded to the toll. However, Kunwar Pal said as constructing a window was not feasible, he inserted the pipes for ventilation. For her part, Geeta told the police she had nothing to do with the 11 pipes and the deaths. She also claimed she had never met Lalit. “The only link Geeta said she has with the family is that she is the daughter of the mason. She claimed she had never met Lalit,” an officer said. “Locals come to her for conducting poojas. She also said that she performs poojas for sick children to cast off the evil eye. She claimed she was never contacted by Lalit,” an officer said. The police meanwhile decided to do a psychological autopsy by analysing medical records, interviewing friends and family and conducting research into their state of mind before their deaths.
