Every constituency, every candidate in the fray for the December 4 Delhi Assembly elections have been studied, graded and tagged with a price. The verdict? No matter what the opinion polls scream about voters swinging between electing the BJP and the Aam Admi Party (AAP), the money is on the Congress winning a fourth term. What has made this really shocking is that he was a judge and this girl, who was yet to graduate as a law degree holder, was interning under him. The violation is on multiple levels — most importantly by a so-called esteemed person engaged with law.” It was a reiteration of what another TMC leader Kalyan Banerjee earlier said, demanding the ouster of the former judge’s post-retirement perch. The option for Ganguly seemed be narrowing with political parties stepping up pressure. Defence Ministry sources say “political diplomacy with Sri Lanka may go through its pulls and pressures from political parties in Tamil Nadu, but military ties would not get tied down by such considerations” and would go on as usual. “Political issues won’t affect military ties. Defence diplomacy would not get tied down by political protests. There is a security consideration involved in defence ties with Colombo. MORE: P7 You Bet They Know Who Will Win Delhi Elections by Yatish Yadav C M Y K collected by foot soldiers who have gone from area to area to gauge the public mood and help firm up the odds. It has been painstaking work, collating the data and analysing the chances of each party. But then the stakes are high with over `250 crore riding on the results. The odds for Delhi election as decided by the eight or nine big daddies of betting are based on parameters like relative strength of political parties, previous records of candidates, winnability factor, anti-incumbency and the mood at rallies. Now, the odds are as low as `2 for every `1 invested on the Congress, `2.30 per rupee for BJP and as much as `3.75 per rupee for AAP. Explaining how it works, a bookie said the lowest returns promised meant the party was a clear favourite and likely to win the election. For example, punters placing `1 lakh on Congress will get `2 lakh if the party wins but if they place the same amount on AAP, they stand to gain `3.75 lakh. C M Y K
