Do you get proper rate for your produce? Have your loans been waived? Have you seen Acche Din?” He then hit out at Modi, Shah and a section of the media. While state police chief Loknath Behera cited lack of scientific evidence and witnesses as the main challenges, police sources say there are more reasons. The samples of the mortal remains of victims exhumed from the graves have not been sent to the Regional Forensic Laboratory, Kannur, though district Rural SP K G Simon had told media persons e a rl i e r t h a t they were sent there. When TNIE contacted the lab, sources there confirmed this. TNIE has also learnt that a decision on sending the samples would be taken only after confirming that the lab has the facilities to undertake the DNA test and trace cyanide from the remains after so many years. Japan ramped up rescue efforts for survivors | AP | REPORT: P10 Short of quality faculty, second-gen AIIMS suffers S U M I S U K A N YA D U T TA @ New Delhi AMID a struggle to find quality faculty, none of the six secondgeneration AIIMS in various parts of the country, established seven years ago, are able to deliver even one-fourth of the services provided by the AIIMS in Delhi. A report prepared by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to assess the progress made by the new AIIMS for a parliamentary standing committee on health, accessed by this newspaper, shows that only about 3,700 patients sought outpatient care at AIIMS Bhubaneshwar — which is the best among the six — per day in August. In terms of in-patients, AIIMS Jodhpur received little more than 4,700 patients in August this year, which is less than one-fifth of the patient intake at the AIIMS Delhi per month. “Finding quality faculty for these institutions has been the biggest challenge,” a senior health ministry official conceded. The report clearly indicates that the institutions meant to provide high-quality speciality and super-speciality care to needy patients closer to their homes have not picked up the way they were expected to.
