He was acquitted in 2025 by a special NIA court after a 17-year legal ordeal. He was due to retire on March 31, 2026 as 54 years is the retirement age for Colonel, but the Armed Forces Tribunal put his retirement on hold, keeping him in service and within the promotion pipeline.
