They remained in contact over phone for a few months after the engagement, but misunderstanding developed between them. Varsha later told her parents that she no longer wanted to marry Yuvaraj. On Wednesday morning, while Varsha was washing clothes outside her house, Yuvaraj allegedly arrived with a billhook and attacked her. Hearing her daughter’s cry for help, Vinayagajothi rushed to her rescue but Yuvaraj allegedly hacked her to death. According to sources, the attackers had brought the kitchen knife secretly from home. Police said the victim, a resident of Athapadakki village, was stabbed in the right chest and back. He was admitted to the Government Sivaganga Medical College Hospital and is said to be in a stable condition According to police, the incident took place around 8.30 am inside a classroom before teachers arrived at the school. The two juvenile attackers, both aged 17 and hailing from Manamadurai and Periyakannaur, allegedly attacked the victim in the presence of other students. The attack is believed to have stemmed from an altercation on July 6. During that incident, the Manamadurai student and some of his friends had allegedly teased the victim, following which the latter injured the boy with a geometry compass during the quarrel. Announcing the seat matrix (excluding Institutes of National Importance like AIIMS) for 202627, the NMC said 1,36,939 MBBS seats will now be available across 823 medical colleges and institutes — 441 government and 382 private colleges — in the country from this year. In 2025-26, there were 1,28,976 MBBS seats across 818 colleges. Of them, 1,27,028 were renewed, which works out to a net addition of 9,911 this year. Karnataka got the highest share with 75 medical colleges having 15,395 total seats, up by 1,300 this time. Tamil Nadu followed with 78 colleges and 13,999 seats, an increase of 950.
