You ought to be more concerned over its possible contamination due to Aflatoxin M1, a toxin that is carcinogenic, and antibiotic residues. Samples lifted from Tamil Nadu, Delhi and Kerala last year had the highest levels of carcinogenic Aflatoxin M1 residues, according to the largest quality survey across India conducted by the apex food safety regulator. In about 6% of the samples, the presence of Aflatoxin M1 resi- dues was found beyond permissible limits. Aflatoxin M1 comes in through feed and fodder, which are currently not regulated in India. The Aflatoxin M1 contamination is more pronounced in processed milk rather the raw milk. But don’t choke on your morning coffee as there is enough good news as well. About 93 per cent of the total 6,432 samples tested nationwide were found safe for human consumption. Former INX Media director Peter Mukerjea, six former bureaucrats in the FIPB, including the then additional secretary of the department of economic affairs in the finance ministry Sindhushree Khullar, , have been named as accused in the case. However, the then codirector of INX Media, Indrani Mukerjea, was not on the accused list as she turned approver and has been pardoned. The accused have been charged with Sections 120B (criminal conspiracy), 420 (cheating), 468 (forgery), 471 (punishment for forgery) of the Indian Penal Code read with Sections 9, 13(2) and 13(1)(d) of Prevention of Corruption Act. The matter will come up for hearing on October 21. They said the mediation process itself has been rendered infructuous in the eyes of the law because it did not involve all Hindu and Muslim parties. THE Income Tax department has seized valuables worth `93 crore following its searches on 40 premises belonging to ‘wellness guru’ and self-styled godman Kalki Bhagwan. Searches were conducted on properties belonging to the godman and his son, in Chennai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, a n d Va r a d a i a h p a l e m i n Andhra Pradesh. An IT spokesperson said the department had found undisclosed income totalling a whopping `500 crore in the godman’s possession. EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE @ Villupuram In a tragic incident, four members of a family in, cluding two children, were found dead inside a locked house at Auroville on Friday. Police suspect they might have committed suicide owing to debts. According to police, Sundaramorthy (40) of Kuyilapalayam was working in a bakery and his wife, Mahesh- wari (35), was employed in Solar Kitchen belonging to Auroville foundation. They were living in a house built on the land given by Auroville foundation, with their daughters Kiruthiga (17) and Samiksha(13), who were studying in Auroville school. The couple did not go to work from Monday. As there was no intimation from Maheshwari, the Solar Kitchen management sent its staff to their house on Friday to check with her. The staff found the door of the house locked and foul smell emanating from inside. He immediately alerted the management and police. A police team broke open the door and found Sundaramorthy hanging from the ceiling and the bodies of Maheshwari, Kiruthiga and Samiksha lying on the cot in a decomposed state.
