Due to the timely defensive action, the Indian side was able to prevent these attempts to unilaterally alter the status quo,” Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Anurag Srivastava said. Amid fresh tensions, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar held a meeting with National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and the Army top brass. A three-judge bench headed by Justice Arun Mishra said the firms will have to pay 10% of the dues by March 31, 2021. Thereafter, they will have to pay an instalment by February 7 every successive year. The bench said non-payment of instalments will not just accrue interest but also invite contempt of court proceedings and added it had extended the timeframe of repayment due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Telcos’ MDs and chairmen were also ordered to furnish personal affidavits, undertaking compliance of the SC’s order. The bench agreed with telcos’ submission that the National Company Law Tribunal and not the Supreme Court should decide whether spectrum can be a subject matter of dispute resolution under IBC. The exams were earlier postponed twice due to the prevailing situation. The National Testing Agency, which conducts the examination, stepped up safety protocols, and even those checking the students were seen in PPE kits at a centre in Bengaluru. Masks were provided to the students at the exam centres. In all, 43,894 will write the examinations at 33 centres in Karnataka until September 6.
