This was announced by Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy, advisor to the State government (public affairs). The High Court had on Tuesday evening issued the interim orders on an application filed by Dammalapati Srinivas, hours after the State Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) filed a case against him and 12 others for alleged insider trading in Amaravati under the Pre- vention of Corruption Act and sections of the IPC. Terming the HC orders unfortunate, unusual, unprecedented and surprising, Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy said it gives the impression that the law is one for the influential and another for the common man. “We will definitely go to the Supreme Court. If we have to go by the HC orders, none will be able to speak on Amaravati scam. Gagging the media, executive, legislature and investigation agencies... this is a serious issue. How could the media be gagged? It seems like an over-reaction... it appears Dammalapati’s advocate Mukul Rohatgi argued that his client and daughters of a Supreme Court judge are named.. if they had done something .. shouldn’t such deeds be questioned? Shouldn’t investigating agencies take up investigation? Is there a different law for one set of people?” he questioned. Sajjala denied the government is acting in a vindictive manner and said that if the TDP talks in such manner, it is understandable as the party is the YSRC’s political rival. First of all, it must be found if a crime took place, he pointed out and wondered how courts could come to a pre-meditated conclusion that it was a vindictive probe. YSRC MP RAISES ISSUE IN LOK SABHA YSRC MP Mithun Reddy raised the issue in the Lok Sabha and urged the Centre to let the CBI probe the Amaravati land scam. Referring to the HC gag order, he said it was because the former advocate general is there and the kith and kin of a judge are there ‘DIFFERENT LAW FOR ONE SET OF PEOPLE?’ “Shouldn’t such deeds be questioned? Shouldn’t investigating agencies take up investigation? Is there a different law for one set of people?” Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy said, and wondered how courts could come to a premeditated conclusion There is no basis for constituting the Cabinet Sub-Committee and the SIT, the court said, adding that there was scope for a government to review its predecessor’s decisions only in certain contexts. No strong reason is available for such review, it ruled and opined that if previous government’s decisions were to be reviewed, the present dispensation ought to have legislative approval. A government cannot on its own do so and no law has conferred such powers on the State government, it said. “Only courts have the power to review unilateral, irrational or illegal policy decisions taken by a government,” the court said and pointed out that in this particular case, there were policy related shortcomings such as taking up investigation before registering a case and seeking constitution of a special court. AP VIRAL WATCH NEW CASES DEATHS ACTIVE CASES 8,835 64 90,279 5,92,760 FRESH ROW 3 silver lion statues from chariot of Kanaka Durga temple missing, investigation ordered EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE @ Vijayawada THE disappearance of three silver lion statues adorning the chariot of the famous Goddess Kanaka Durga temple atop Indrakeeladri in Vijayawada has sparked a fresh row in the state. With allegations of negligence by the temple authorities, the government asked the Endowments Department regional joint commissioner Murthy to probe the issue and submit a report for action to be taken. The development came days after the chariot at the Antarvedi Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy temple was burnt, leading to a furore and prompting the state government to hand over the probe to the CBI. The absence of the statues was noticed when the temple management took up an audit of the temple properties and was reviewing the security of the premises on Tuesday, following orders from the government. BJP state chief Somu Veerraju, who was scheduled to The only remaining statue on the chariot was damaged (inset) | EXPRESS meet Governor Biswabhusan Harichandan on Wednesday to submit a memorandum on attacks on Hindu temples and the arrest of right-wing activists, visited the temple in the morning and inspected the chariot. He expressed dissatisfaction over temple executive officer (EO) MV Suresh Babu’s explanation on how the silver lion statues, weighing around 10 kg, went missing, and enquired about the security measures in place. “The EO claimed the three lion statues might be in the storeroom and the inventory needs to be verified. Why are only three statues in the storeroom and the fourth left on the chariot? The fourth statue was also partially damaged, indicating someone tampered with it,” Veerraju said, and demanded action against the temple staff for their negligence. Later, Endowments Minister Velampalli Srinivas visited the temple and took stock of the situation. He informed the media that it was the temple staff who noticed that the TALLY statues were missing and alerted the management. “When the staff uncovered the chariot, they found the lions missing. The chariot was last used during the Ugadi festival in 2019 (when the TDP was in power) and since then it was untouched,” he said, adding that a departmental inquiry has been initiated. Srinivas also said action will be taken against the private security firm guarding the temple, if its personnel were found to have been negligent. Commenting on the issue, the EO said it was the temple officials who brought the incident to light. “There was no negligence on our part. We did not notice it earlier because the chariot is not in use. It was untouched after Ugadi 2019 as we did not celebrate Ugadi this year due to the lockdown. Anyone found responsible for the crime will not be spared,” Suresh Babu said. Opposition leader N Chandrababu Naidu too criticised the government for the attacks on temples and their properties.
