The release, quoting the minister said, in Chennai alone, the Government Institute of Child Health at Egmore has treated 542 children as in-patients, while 372 others were under home quarantine. As many as 30 children who tested positive with their parents were treated at Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital. Among them, were also children with heart disease, blood cancer, pneumonia, and other congenital defects. Many children also had symptoms like cold, cough and throat pain. The total number of children who have been treated by the State Health Department in various government hospitals across the State stands at 45,222, said the press release. Meanwhile, the day’s caseload in Chennai alone was 992, followed by Coimbatore with 530. It added, Railways suffered a revenue loss of `5,475 crore in 2016-2019 period, due to such concessions. Deputy Chief Commercial Manager of Southern Railway , A Sundar, made the submission on a plea seeking direction to the railways to resume booking with concession, through the IRCTC’s online portal. In the counter submitted by PT Ramkumar, counsel for railways, said, “The element of concession varied from 10 per cent to 100 per cent, depending upon the category However, in . view of Covid-19, a lot of train services were cancelled across the country and it was to grant concessions only to persons with disability , students and 11 categories of patients.” Prior to March 20, 2020, concessions were granted to over 50 categories of passengers, including youth, farmers, artists, sports persons, medical professionals, senior citizens, awardees, war widows, among others.
