The issue pertains to the I-T returns, filed by Sasikala for the assessment year 1994-95, for `28.86 lakh. Subsequently, a raid conducted by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) had found that she had suppressed information on the purchase of 80 acres of land, during the assessment year. Based on the DVAC report, the I-T department had passed an order, dated March 14, 2002, demanding tax to the tune of `48 lakh. Sasikala had challenged it before the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT), which quashed the order. The department has moved the present appeal in the high court, challenging the tribunal’s order.
