Sharing his thoughts on the road ahead for the RSS, Hosa- bale said there is a need for an intellectual campaign. “It is time to set right the narrative on India,” he stressed. On the hotly debated issue of ‘love jihad’, he said the organisation will fully support laws to regulate it, while favouring inter-caste marriages. He stressed the need for reservation for backward communities. “Hosabale is known for dialogue, and he’s seen as best suited to address the emerging modern societal complexities. In the past, Hosabale deftly responded to issues, including the rights of India’s tension with China on the LAC and alleged human rights violation in India were among the major issues that figured in the talks between External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and US Defence Secretary Llyod Austin on Saturday . Austin is on a two-day visit to India. This is the first overseas visit by a top functionary of the Biden administration. Sources said Austin told Jaishankar that “as the two largest democracies in the world, human rights and values are important to us and we will lead with these values”. Later, talking to reporters, Austin said, “India is our partner whose partnership we value… Partners need to be able to have those kinds of discussions. And certainly, we feel comfortable in doing that and you can have those discussions in a very meaningful way and still make progress.” The issue of human rights was raised amid global concerns raised over the government’s handling of the farmer protest, alleged persecution of minorities and independent voices being gagged. Ahead of Llyod’s visit, the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee had urged him to take up the issue with India. On India-China tension, Austin said the US never thought the two countries were on the brink of a war. During the meeting that lasted an hour, the two leaders also discussed the importance of the Indo-Pacific region and the Afghanistan situation. Earlier, Austin held talks with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and the two countries decided to increase interaction between their armed forces, specifically with the US military commands having their operations into the Indian Ocean Region, Eastern Coasts of Africa and the Gulf. “We have agreed to pursue enhanced cooperation with the US Indo-Pacific Command, Central Command and Africa Command,” Singh said after the meeting. He added the discussions focussed on defence cooperation and expanding military-to-military engagement across services, information sharing, cooperation in emerging sectors of defence and mutual logistics support. SEC seeks CBI probe into leak of letters to Guv E x p r e s s N e w s Se r v i c e @ Vijayawada State Election Commissioner Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar on Saturday filed a petition in the High Court seeking a CBI probe into the alleged leak of privileged communication between him and the Gover nor. He stated that probe into the matter by the State police will not yield any result and in turn, the police may even frame him for the leak of confidential letters. Justice Rao Raghunandan Rao, before whom the petition came up for hearing, directed the High Court registry to refer it to the Chief Justice for listing and hearing before another judge. The SEC, in his petition, said he has the responsibility of conducting the elections in a free and fair manner and for which he needs the cooperation of the Governor. Ramesh Kumar said as part of this, he had written confidential letters to the Governor, which had become public. Alleging that the confidential letters were made public HC questions SEC on its powers The AP High Court on Saturday questioned SEC N Ramesh Kumar whether the SEC is of the view that the discretionary powers it has do not have any limitation and such powers do not come under legal scrutiny. Justice DVSS Somayajulu made these observations while hearing the writ petition seeking conduct of MPTC and ZPTC polls by some people with vested interests, Ramesh Kumar said he urged the Chief Secretary and the Governor’s Secretary to probe the leak. He said the Governor’s Secretary denied any such leak of the confidential letters and failed to inquire the mater. In the meantime, Ramesh Kumar said he received a notice from the AP Legislative Assembly Secretary on March 18 as ministers Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy and Botcha Satyanarayana complained to the Privileges Committee stating that the contents of his letters written to the Governor amounted to breach of their privilege. Asserting that the letters were not leaked from his office, the SEC said in a writ filed by M Ramireddy of Guntur seeking court direction for conduct of MPTC and ZPTC polls, the petitioner attested the copy of the confidential letter written by him to the Governor. The petitioner, however, did not reveal the source of the letter, he said. Ramesh Kumar made the Chief Secretary, Governor’s Secretary Union Home Secre, tary, CBI Director, ministers Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy and Botcha Satyanarayana and Ramireddy respondents. He urged the court to direct the CBI to submit its interim report on leak of letters within 72 hours. 3 Maoist militia members shun violence, join mainstream @ Visakhapatnam Maoists in Visakha agency suffered a setback as three hardcore militia members, including a member of Pedabayalu Dalam and a commander, surrendered to the police here on Saturday One of the three . surrendered militiamen is Pangi Jagga Rao alias Jumadam Srinu, who the Maoists consider an asset for his expertise in making and planting improvised explosive devices.
