CBI arrests Gandhi who probed Jagan E x p r e s s Ne w s Se r v i c e @ Hyderabad The CBI on Tuesday arrested tainted former GST assistant commissioner Bollineni Srinivasa Gandhi in a disproportionate assets case. He had investigated several high profile cases, including the alleged quid pro quo case involving Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and GST fraud involving Rajya Sabha MP Sujana Chowdary . It is learnt that he was arrested after he failed to appear for questioning. He will be produced before the Special Court for CBI cases. The CBI had booked Gandhi when he was working as a superintendent in the Anti-Evasion Wing of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) in Hyderabad, for allegedly amassing properties disproportionate to his known sources of income. During the probe, it was found he had invested in plots and agriculture lands in Amaravati and its surroundings. Gandhi had also worked at the Enforcement Directorate for 10 years. In 2014, he acquired 2.96 acres in Tarigoppula village in the Amartavati region, in the name of his daughter B Sai Manaswitha. He also purchased land measuring 0.42 cents at Mandadam in Thullur mandal in his father’s name. Investigation revealed Gandhi along with the then deputy commissioner of Central Taxes of Hyderabad GST office Ch Sudha Rani had registered cases against several companies and collected bribes. The Union Finance Ministry which received a tip-off about their activities ordered an internal inquiry in March, 2019. In 2017, Jagan Mohan Reddy had lodged a complaint against Gandhi and the then joint director of Enforcement Director Uma Shankar for their vindictive and discriminatory actions. Tope said the state is facing a severe shortage of medical oxygen and Remdesivir injection, while hospital beds are fully occupied. “If we don’t act now, things will be difficult to handle,” he added.
