He also offered a government job to the wife of the jawan. The shocked family called up the soldier and heaved a sigh of relief when he answered the call. Narayanaswamy was supposed to go to the house of another soldier, who died last year, but the local BJP members led the minister to the wrong house. The local BJP unit had made arrangements for the minister’s visit to the residence of soldier Basavaraj Hiremath, who died R i c h a S h a r m a @ New Delhi The process of Opposition consolidation gained further momentum on Friday as 19 parties participated in a meeting called by Congress chief Sonia Gandhi, with regional parties dominating the narrative, saying all like-minded parties irrespective of their alliance with the Congress should be part of a united front to take on the BJP . Following an hour-and-a-half long meeting, the Congress released a ‘joint statement’ demanding action from the Centre on 11 points. Soon thereafter, the Trinamool Congress issued a separate wishlist with just five points — vaccine for all, repeal farm laws, fuel and LPG last year while alighting from a train at Pune Railway Station. Hiremath was joining back his unit after visiting his hometown of Mulgund in Gadag district when the accident occurred. But, party members took the minister to the house of Ravi Kattimani, which is just two streets away . Narayanaswamy was accompanied by Gadag-Haveri MP Shivakumar Udasi, State PWD Minister CC Patil and some local party members. By then, other party members, who were waiting at the residence of Hiremath, rushed to the residence of Kattimani. Narayanaswamy who seemed , upset with the faux pas, returned without visiting the house of Hiremath. Nadu- Nedu Parents prefer municipal schools in R’varam K V Sa i l en d r a @ Rajamahendravaram Municipal schools in the city are now struggling to meet the heavy demand for admissions in the first standard. For the first time in the recent history of municipal schools, ‘No Admission’ boards have appeared before them. It is being seen as the direct impact of the Mana Badi - Nadu Nedu programme taken up to develop basic infrastructure in government schools. There used to be days when parents felt shy to tell that their children were studying in government schools, which were called ‘Dumpala Badi’ in local parlance. However, it is no longer the case and if anyone calls a government school as Dumpala Badi now, he is sure to attract public wrath. Even the parents who sent their children to private schools by paying hefty fee, are now evincing interest in admitting them in government schools in Rajamahendravaram. There are 13 high schools, three upper primary schools and 50 primary schools in the Rajamahendravaram Municipal Corporation. As many as six schools have displayed ‘No Admission’ boards at the main gate unable to cope with enquiries from parents.
