It was their first in-person meeting since the expansion of the ministry in July last. It is learnt that the meeting was designed to be a brainstorming session. The BJP had recently held seven such brainstorming sessions on specific themes. The meeting came in the backdrop of the NDA gov- ernment seeking to expedite the implementation of the BJP’s vision documents for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections amid important Assembly polls early next year. The meeting went on for about four hours, sources said. It also took place on a day when the BJP named Modi as its prime ministerial candidate in 2013. Then BJP chief Rajnath Singh had announced Modi as the PM candidate of the party on September 14 that year. Government officials were stoic in their silence over what transpired during the meeting. However, it is understood that the ministers were given an account of the status of the Covid-19 vaccination in the country in the backdrop of the threat of a third wave of the pandemic and the approaching festive season. THE Telangana State Cabinet will meet on September 16 to discuss and finalise the commencement date of the monsoon session of the State Legislature. As per rules, the State Legislature should meet once in six months. The six-month period since Telangana’s Budget session will come to an end by September 25. The government further urged the court to permit it to go ahead with the immersion this time as all arrangements were in place for the same. “There are religious sentiments attached to the immersion of Ganesh idols in the Hussainsagar,” the State added. The petition is expected to come up for hearing in the Apex Court in the next two days. IN the wake of the Telangana High Court banning the immersion of Ganesh idols made of Plaster of Paris (PoP) in Hyderabad’s water bodies, including the Hussainsagar, the Khairatabad Ganesh Utsav Committee (KGUS) has decided to install a 70-foot eco-friendly Ganesh idol made of clay next year. The move was announced by KGUS chairman S Sudershan and vice chairman Sandeep Raj after GHMC Mayor Gadwal Vijayalaxmi’s visit to the Khairatabad Ganesh pandal. The Mayor had requested the committee to install environment-friendly idols made of clay instead of the PoP ones. The committee also announced that it would explore the possibility of immersing the clay idol at the place of installation itself, instead of taking it all the way to the Hussainsagar. This year, the Khairatabad Ganesh, which is 40 feet tall, is named Panchamukha Rudra Maha Ganapati. Alerted by residents who had taken shelter on the rooftops of their submerged buildings, police rushed to the spot and rescued Meghanath, who was hanging P3 from a tree branch.
