The move comes amid a controversy over his absence at the recent GST Council meeting in Lucknow. At the meeting on September 17, the C o u n c i l a ck n ow l edged that IT systems have stabilised and there is a need to introduce IT base checks and balances in the GST IT system. The Council also spoke about the uses of data analyses like the Business Intelligence and Fraud Analytics (BIFA) system of GSTN, and stressed on expanding the use of data analytics in improving the efficiency of GST administration. Subsuming the previous two GoMs on IT challenges and revenue mobilisation, the Union Finance Ministry formed an eight-member committee, with ‘Send report by Nov 20’ fied as BPL beneficiaries, and loans were offered based on fake jewellery he alleged. , The registrar for cooperative societies has now issued a circular to the managing directors of the Tamil Nadu State Apex Cooperative Bank, Tamil Nadu Cooperative State Agriculture and Rural Development Bank, all Central cooperative banks, registrar of the Chennai zone, and joint registrars of all zones, to constitute a panel to scrutinise jewel loans given since March 31 this year. The circular states that each panel must comprise the cooperative registrar, zonal supervisor or field manager of a central cooperative bank and jewel appraiser. The GoM on GST system reforms will review the IT tools and interface available with tax officers and suggest measures to make the system more effective. It would identify potential sources of evasion and suggest changes in business processes and IT systems to plug revenue leakages. It would identify mechanisms for better coordination between the Union and State tax administration. The GoM would also work on identifying the possible use of data analysis towards better compliance and revenue augmentation, and suggest the use of such data analysis to the GST Council. Sources close to Thiaga Rajan claimed Right-wing leaders unleashed a series of lies and fake news about the minister for not participating in the GST Council meeting at Lucknow, so his appointment in the GoM is a fitting response. Despite the Centre recently ruling out caste census in 2021 in its affidavit before the Supreme Court, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Sunday pressed ahead saying it was the need of the hour and served national interest. Similar demands came from chief ministers of Jharkhand and Odisha during Sunday’s meeting in Delhi with Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Left-wing extremism. While Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren submitted a memorandum in support of caste-based census, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said his government would do whatever is sensible to reduce discrimination in his state. Addressing media after the Delhi meeting, Nitish said enumeration of castes was key to effective implementation of welfare schemes and “it would not be proper if it is not conducted”. Nitish said he would convene an all-party meeting in Bihar to discuss the situation and chart the future course. While Nitish said he does not see any point in leaving the NDA over this issue, his statement put the Bihar BJP in a tight spot as it has been advised by its leadership to expose the parties demanding caste census. Three of the four NDA constituents — JD(U), HAM and VIP — have broken ranks and are supporting the Opposition on the issue. Predictably, former deputy chief minister of Bihar Sushil Nitish Kumar Hemant Soren Kumar Modi defended the Centre’s line, saying caste-based census was difficult as it was not ‘just a matter of adding a column’. “But if any state wants to conduct it, it can go ahead and do it like Karnataka had done earlier or like Odisha is doing now,” Modi said. “If the Bihar NDA wants to conduct the survey it can do it. , But it is not practically possible for the Centre to conduct it now,” he added. Balwant Bind’s induction is being seen as the BJP’s bid to create its own Nishad leadership , though it has forged an alliance with the NISHAD party led by Dr Sanjay Nishad. , This was the second expansion of Yogi’s government. The first one happened in 2019. Amid last minute pulls and pressures, 15 Congress lawmakers, including seven freshers, took their oaths of office and secrecy as ministers in Punjab.
