The incident occured when he was returning from a public meeting. Majhi escaped unhurt. Around 11.50 am, two motorcycle-borne miscreants hurled two bombs on Majhi’s car at Mandua, on the outskirts of Keonjhar town. The MLA’s car was partly damaged. A complaint has been lodged with Keonjhar town police station in this regard. Alleging it to be the handiwork of local BJD youth leaders, BJP activists staged rasta roko on NH-49 at Gandhi Chhak in Keonjhar town demanding immediate arrest of those behind the attack. The blockade was lifted in the evening after Keonjhar SP Mitrabhanu Mohapatra assured to arrest the accused within 24 hours. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan strongly condemned the incident and demanded that Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik take quick action against the culprits. Stating that attack on a people’s representative in broad daylight on a busy road is a definite cause for concern, Pradhan said the incident has raised questions on law and order situation in the State. “There are bound to be differences in democracy but such incidents should not occur,” he added. State president of BJP Sameer Mohanty also condemned the incident and demanded that the CM should intervene to ensure strong action against the culprits.
