He was elected the BJP legislature party leader on Saturday hours after Biplab , Kumar Deb’s resignation from the post. The shake-up comes months ahead of assembly elections in the state. Saha, 67, took over as the state BJP chief last year and is a confidant of Deb.BJP sources said some ministers and party MLAs had been livid with Deb for the past two years for his alleged autocratic style of functioning. The problem started in 2019 when he sacked health minister Sudip Roy Barman. Barman was the first to revolt along with 8-10 MLAs. They had met the party’s central leaders to complain against Deb. Later, three MLAs ditched BJP with Barman going to Congress from where he had started his political career. During his first two years as CM, Deb had embarrassed BJP with his bizarre remarks. Camps should be opened if necessary and food and water supply ensured there.
