The group had time till September 2024 to repay the loans. “In light of recent market volatility and in continuation of the promoters’ commitment to reduce the overall promoter leverage backed by Adani shares, we are pleased to inform that promoters have posted the amounts to prepay $1,114 million ahead of maturity of September 2024,” a company statement read. With this, over 200 million shares in three Adani group firms — 168.27 mn shares of Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) representing 12% of the promoters’ holding, 27.56 mn shares (3% of promoters’ holding) in Adani Green Energy and 11.77 mn (1.4%) in Adani Transmission — will be released. The promoter family owns 65.13% in APSEZ, of which 17.31% is pledged, according to BSE data updated till December 31. The promoter’s stake in Adani Green Energy is 60.75% (pledge: 4.36%) and 74.19% in Adani Transmission (pledge: 6.62%). The ports-to-power conglomerate has been under fire and lost nearly `10 lakh crore in market capitalisation in just eight sessions after US-based short-seller Hindenburg Research published a scathing report alleging fraud and stock price manipulation. The relentless stock rout had also triggered concerns of the group’s ability to meet debt obligations. The latest move by the promoters is aimed to address such concerns. P9 25% TB patients diabetic: TN to intensify testing S i nd uja Ja ne @Chennai AROUND 25% of the patients diagnosed with tuberculosis in 2022 in Tamil Nadu were diabetic, analysis by the State Tuberculosis Cell showed, prompting the state government to intensify testing for TB among diabetic patients with symptoms of the bacterial disease by training mid-level health providers engaged in the Makkalai Thedi Maruthuvam scheme. The MTM workers will be incentivised for every positive TB case they find. According to state TB officer Dr Asha Frederick, patients with TB and diabetes mellitus (TB-DM) take longer to convert from sputum smear-positive to negative under treatment. “There is growing evidence from observational studies that TB-DM is associated with an increase in adverse TB treatment outcomes, including delay in bacteria clearing the system (mycobacterial clearance), treatment failure, death, relapse and re-infection.” In 2022, the State reported over 93,500 notified TB cases, of whom around 25% had diabetes. “We are now checking for TB among people with diabetes. We will be training midlevel health providers engaged in the MTM scheme to test diabetic patients for TB especially if they show TB symptoms,” Dr Asha told TNIE. Persons having a cough with sputum for at least two weeks, unexplained weight loss or loss of appetite and blood-stained sputum should test for TB.
