Soren had skipped seven summonses before he agreed to be questioned. According to sources, eight ED officials came in with files and a list of 300 questions for the interrogation. Questions were mostly related to the land scam and sources of his income, they said. Later in the evening, additional files were brought in. The ED is investigating the Ranchi land scam on the basis of documents recovered from key accused Bhanu Pratap Prasad’s house. Several important documents relating to the scam were found in the raid from the house of Sub-Inspector Prasad of Badagain zone. Certain documents show the CM allegedly grabbing a parcel of tribal land in Ranchi. Amid apprehension that Soren could be arrested, many MLAs of the ruling alliance gathered at the chief minister’s house since morning to show their support. Likewise, hundreds of JMM workers gathered near his house with bow and arrow placards, party flags and banners. B a n d h a v i Ann a m @ Guntur While the nation is gearing up for the consecration ceremony of Ram Lalla at the Ayodhya temple on January 22, expectant parents are fervently seeking Caesarean section ‘Muhurat deliveries’, believing that babies born on this day will embody the qualities of Lord Rama. However, not every obstetrician is in favour of entertaining such requests. Stressing the importance of prioritising health and safety over auspicious dates, Guntur Government General Hospital superintendent Dr Kiran Kumar opined that birthing is a natural process and it unfolds on its own. “A baby needs 39 weeks in the womb because important organs like its brain, lungs, and liver need time to develop. So, we do not recommend scheduling deliveries for any specific day or time,” he added. Muhurat deliveries are not new. Expectant mothers often consult priests for an auspicious date and time, and make delivery requests accordingly. Some believe that an auspicious birth time positively influences the baby’s personality and spirituality further providing , strength to cope with life stresses. A senior obstetrician at a multi-speciality hospital in Guntur city revealed that their hospital has received over 10 such requests from women who are due to give birth in the last week of January and the first week of February. While some hospitals have made special arrangements to accommodate such requests, others are refusing the same to prevent overburdening facilities and risks to mothers and infants. Meanwhile, doctors at Guntur GGH, which reports over 15 deliveries every day, are denying Muhurat deliveries. Considering the severe rush at the hospital and health of both the mother and the newborn, it is not possible to schedule the deliveries as per the request of the patient, unless it is an emergency Dr Kiran Ku, mar added. He made the statement on fencing while addressing the passing out parade of 2,551 Assam police commandos here. They were trained by the Army and the police. “We have a porous border with Myanmar. The Modi government has decided to fence it. The entire border will be protected through fencing similar to that of the Bangladesh border,” Shah said. He also said the Centre reviewed its Free Movement Regime (FMR) agreement with Myanmar and decided to do away with it. India and Union home minister Amit Shah during the 60th Raising Day ceremony of Sashastra Seema Bal in Tezpur on Saturday | PTI Myanmar had signed the FMR pact to facilitate the movement of people residing along the international border. Chief Minister Lalduhoma told Modi the Mizos consider the state’s 510 km long border with Myanmar as imposed by the British. The Chins in Myanmar and the Mizos are ethnic cousins, belonging to the Zo community . Shah did not spell out why the decision was taken but it is a fact that the open border allows insurgents, among others, to sneak in and out of India. Also, the Manipur government suspected the involvement of Myanmar-based Kuki militants in the violence in the state. Meanwhile, addressing the 60th raising day of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) in Assam’s Tezpur, Shah said the entire country will be 100% free from the Naxal problem within the next three years.
