The incident happened around 1 am, while de-inducting the jawans from a military training activity the Army said. , In a social media message, the Army’s Fire and Fury Corps said, “an Army tank got struck in the Shyok River, near Saser Brangsa, Eastern Ladakh due to sudden increase in the water level.” Rescue teams rushed to the location but due to high current in the swollen river following flash floods, the mission didn’t succeed and the tank crew lost their lives. Two T-72 tanks were trying to cross Shyok but one of them got stuck, officials said, adding the melting of snow resulted in the increase in the water levels. The deceased personnel were identified as M R K Reddy, Subhan Khan, Bhupendra Ne gi, E Teibam and Sadarbonia Nagaraju. This is the second biggest incident in which soldiers were killed during operational deployment.
