Several airlines had to issue handwritten boarding passes to the passengers. IndiGo cancelled at least six flights from Bhubaneswar to Mumbai, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, New Delhi and Hyderabad. It also shared a list of flights which were cancelled on Friday and Saturday . BPIA director Prasanna Pradhan told TNIE that passengers started facing problems due to the glitch after 10 am. Airline reservation system worked but there were issues in the check-in system for which manual boarding passes were issued to the fliers, he said. A long queue of anxious passengers could be seen outside the counters at the city airport. The cancellations and delays left them in a catch-22 situation because instantly opting for other mode of transport was practically impossible. A passenger who was to leave for Mumbai expressed apprehensions that the cancellations may lead to a rise in the alreadyelevated tickets prices. India was careful not to comment on the situation, with External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal saying, “We see this as an internal matter of the country .” Till Thursday, over 300 people, mostly students from India, Nepal and Bhutan, were evacuated via Dawki in Meghalaya. The Meghalaya government said 202 Indians — 198 students and four tourists — were evacuated. The students included 67 from Meghalaya. Ninety-five others from Nepal and seven from Bhutan had entered through Dawki. “On Friday, 96 students Out of more than 1,10,000 scheduled commercial flights on Friday, 2,691 have been cancelled globally, according to aviation analytics firm Cirium crossed the border at Gede-Darshana around 5.30 pm. None of the students waiting to cross back was left behind. Another batch of over 100 students are expected to cross into India during at night,’’ according to a source.
