Won’t enforce 20-28°C AC temp norm: Union min Union minister Bhupender Yadav on Friday said the government is unlikely to implement the new AC temperature range anytime soon. Asked at the India Climate Summit when the new AC temperature range would be implemented, Yadav said any such situation “may arise only after 2050”. “I do not think it will happen immediately; capacities will be gradually built for it over time,” he said. Achieving climate targets must be done in line with national circumstances. bengaluru l saturday l june 28, 2025 l `9.00 l PAGES 24 l late city EDITION CHENNAI ■ MADURAI ■ VIJAYAWADA ■ BENGALURU ■ KOCHI ■ HYDERABAD ■ VISAKHAPATNAM ■ COIMBATORE ■ KOZHIKODE ■ THIRUVANANTHAPURAM ■ BELAGAVI ■ BHUBANESWAR ■ SHIVAMOgGA ■ MANGALURU ■ TIRUPATI ■ TIRUCHY ■ TIRUNELVELI ■ SAMBALPUR ■ HUBBALLI ■ DHARMAPURI ■ KOTTAYAM ■ KANNUR ■ VILLUPURAM ■ KOLLAM ■ TADEPALLIGUDEM ■ NAGAPATTINAM ■ THRISSUR ■ KALABURAGI After US-China deal, Trump hints at ‘big one’ with India Let’s avoid new complexities: India to China Express News S ervi ce @ New Delhi Rajnath flags trust deficit, stresses need for permanent solution to border demarcation M aya n k S i n g h @ New Delhi India and China should build on the fresh momentum in the bilateral relations and avoid new complexities, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said on Friday, a day after he met his Chinese counterpart Admiral Dong Jun on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Defence Ministers’ conclave in Qingdao, China. “It is incumbent on both sides to maintain this positive momentum and avoid adding new complexities in the bilateral relationship,” Singh posted on X, adding that he exchanged “constructive and forward-looking views” with Dong on Thursday . During the talks, Singh emphasised the need for a structured and permanent approach to de-escalation and peace along the Line of Actual Control. He outlined a roadmap for effective border management, achieving a permanent solution to border demarcation through established mechanisms, bridging the trust deficit stemming from the 2020 Eastern Ladakh standoff, and creating good neighbourly conditions to foster cooperation. A defence ministry readout highlighted Singh’s concern about trust deficit remaining a major barrier to progress. Singh reiterated India’s position that the Chinese People’s Liberation Army must return to its deployment positions as they stood in April 2020, prior to violent clashes at multiple friction points such as Finger 4 on the north bank of Pangong Tso, Hot Springs, Gogra, Galwan, and Depsang. The 2020 standoff breached several agreements and confidence-building measures, undermining decades of peace and stability efforts. Although disengagement from all standoff points was completed in October 2024, over 1,00,000 troops with heavy military equipment still remain deployed near the LAC, indicating that challenges persist. Beyond border issues, Singh also briefed the Chinese defence minister about the April 22 Pahalgam terrorist attack and India’s Operation Sindoor aimed at dismantling Pakistan’s terror infrastructure. He underlined India’s right to selfdefence and urged shared responsibility in combating terrorism. Chariots crawl The annual Rath Yatra at Puri on Friday was chaotic. Local residents have laced the freshly dead ox with large quantities of insecticides containing phorate. All the five big cats have died within a couple of hours of eating the meat,” said a veterinarian, who is part of the team constituted to investigate the deaths. Animals die 4-5 hours after consuming poison-laced food when the digestion gets completed. But in some instances, like in this case, they die within a couple of hours if the poison content is high, he added. Also, the type of poison and its details can be best ascertained if the carcass is found within 4-5 days. Agarwal, special secretary in Department of Commerce, is leading discussions to finalise an interim pact ahead of Trump’s July 9 deadline to slap reciprocal tariffs. The Trump administration had on April 2 announced plans to impose reciprocal tariffs on several countries, including India. However, those tariffs have been suspended until July 9 to allow room for negotiations. The US is seeking tariff con- cessions from India on a range of products, including industrial goods, electric vehicles, wines, petrochemical products, dairy items, and agricultural products such as apples and genetically modified crops. In return, India is pushing for duty cuts on its labour-intensive exports such as textiles, gems and jewellery, leather goods, garments, plastics, chemicals, shrimp, oil seeds, grapes, etc. Earlier this month, US Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick said a deal between India and the US could be finalised soon, with both countries finding common ground that suits their interests.
