The panel was set up to bring the syllabus in line with the National Education Policy . “We are not going for an overhaul, only modifications or corrections,” he told media on Wednesday, as books have to reach schools by January 2 when the new school year begins. Cracks surface in Cong over CM style M S V i d ya n a n d a n @ T’Puram ‘Cold relationship’ The simmering discontent within the ruling Congress over Chief Minister V D Satheesan’s style of functioning spilled into the open on Thursday with sen, ior leader and UDF convener Adoor Prakash publicly accusing him of taking major decisions unilaterally keeping both , the party and the UDF in the dark. “Several important decisions were being taken without discussions within the UDF, and I often learn about them from media reports,” he told reporters. He also pointed out that the UDF had not met in recent times, adding that Satheesan, as its chairman, should take the initiative to convene it. “That is not happening,” he said. The immediate trigger for Prakash’s outburst was media reports on Wednesday’s cabinet decision to appoint IUML leader M K Muneer as chairman of the Administrative Reforms Commission (ARC) and Forward Bloc national general secretary G Devarajan as Keralam’s Special Representative in New Delhi, both with cabinet rank. However, he clarified that both Muneer and Devarajan deserved the posts and that he had nothing against either of them. His objection, he said, was to the lack of consultation within Adoor Prakash said he and V D Satheesan now shared a cold relationship. “We have not even talked over the phone since the first and only UDF meeting after this government came to power... I came to know about all appointments, be it the film bodies or the ARC, through the media. I have no answer to the questions from allies,” he said. the UDF. Stopping short of accusing Satheesan of hijacking the system, the UDF convener said matters requiring joint consultation must be decided that way . He also flagged the delay in appointments to various boards and corporations. “The UDF government has been in power for four months, yet most boards and corporations are still headed by appointees of the previous LDF government,” he said. Later talking to TNIE, Prakash said, “The UDF and the Congress party have become weak, as is evident from the front’s performance in the recent local body byelections. The UDF’s relatively poor performance has dented the image of its government.” ● More on P4 reasons and motives remain unknown and are subject to a formal investigation. Machchhar’s actions have drawn praise from Indian and world leaders. “Captain Smit Machchhar is a HERO. His valour helped save hundreds of lives and avert a great tragedy India . is proud of Captain Machchhar. Praying for his speedy recovery , renewed strength and good health,” said Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In an interview with CBS News, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Machchhar had been seriously injured during the cockpit confrontation but managed to unlock the cockpit door while the aircraft was descending rapidly . With his family roots in Gujarat’s Surendranagar district, Machchhar had his sights set on the family’s textile business and flying was not on his radar. After completing school, he enrolled in textile engineering before pursuing management studies at a Mumbai institute. However, the aviation bug bit when he attended a seminar, which introduced him to professional flying that pushed him to abandon his origiP7 nal career plan. According to sources, the Ministry of Culture plans to display the collection, dating from the 18th to the early 20th century, in one of the museum’s galleries dedicated to adornments. The collection includes necklaces, bracelets, armlets and rings. Among its notable pieces are a 185-carat Imperial diamond, popularly known as the ‘Jacob diamond’, which is larger than the Koh-i-Noor, and a seven-stringed pearl necklace. The collection is worth thousands of crores of rupees. It has remained largely out of public view because of the security arrangements needed to move it from the RBI vaults. “The first gallery, likely to be opened to public by June next, will have adornments on display These jewels have a great . story to tell, and they are considered among the most expen- sive,” a source said . The ministry has begun work on documentation and logistics of moving the jewellery from the vaults, sources said.
