Gover nor C P Radhakrishnan administered the oath to all 39 ministers, many of them fresh faces, at the Raj Bhavan in Nagpur on the eve of Maharashtra state assembly’s winter session. Among the newly sworn-in ministers, 19 are from the BJP (16 cabinet berths and 3 MoS); 11 from the Shiv Sena (9 cabinet and 2 MoS); and 9 from NCP (8 cabinet ministers and 1 MoS). With this, the BJP has 20 ministers including CM Devendra Fadnavis, Shiv Sena has 12 including deputy CM Eknath Shinde, and NCP 11 including deputy CM Ajit Pawar. The Cabinet is now in full strength with 43 ministers. Notably, 12 ministers from the Shinde-led government were dropped to give representation to young leaders. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has proposed transferring a 10km stretch of the Chennai-Kolkata NH 16 from Madhavaram Junction to Padiyanallur to the state highways, making it a tollfree section. Once approved by the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MORTH), the total tolled road length of the highway will come down from 54.5km to 44.5km. This change will cut the `80 toll fee for cars and jeeps by `15, bringing it down to `65. Fee for light motor vehicles (LMVs) and minibuses will be reduced by `20, lowering it from `125 to `105. Similarly, trucks and buses will see a `45 reduction, cutting the toll fee down from `265 to `220. This will be the first section of an NH in the state proposed to be removed from the tolled network due to vehicular congestion.
