PR E E THA N AIR @ New Delhi An estimated Rs 3,400 crore has been lying unclaimed in bank accounts across Karnataka for more than a decade, officials revealed at the District Consultative Committee (DCC) and District Level Review Committee (DLRC) meeting held here on Wednesday . Addressing the meeting, Arun Kumar, Assistant General Manager, RBI Bengaluru Regional Office, said the Reserve Bank of India has been implementing a special statewide campaign under the Depositor Education and Awareness Fund (DEAF) for the past three months to reunite unclaimed deposits with their rightful owners. The campaign will continue until December 31, though depositors can approach banks to claim their money even after the deadline. Kumar noted that nearly 80% of such accounts hold balances below Rs 10,000. Many of them are decades old, lack updated mobile numbers or KYC details, and in several cases, the original account holders are no longer alive. Updating mobile numbers and customer details has been taken up as the first step in the campaign. The unclaimed de posits include amounts in savings, fixed deposit and current accounts. Customers can check for unclaimed deposits through the UDGAM portal. Dakshina Kannada Lead Bank District Chief Manager Kavitha Shetty said around Rs 140 crore remains unclaimed in nearly six lakh bank accounts in the district alone. So far, Rs 20 crore has been returned to depositors of 830 accounts under the DEAF scheme. Dakshina Kannada MP Capt Brijesh Chowta stressed the need for a robust awareness drive, urging banks to proactively inform customers through pamphlets and direct outreach. He also expressed concern over delays in implementing welf are schemes and called for a clear action plan to strengthen delivery of flagship schemes such as PMJDY, PMJJBY, PMSBY and APY. ‘Bahubali’ launches heaviest satellite on ISRO record B o s k y K h a nn a @ Bengaluru File photo of Kuldeep Singh Sengar being taken away from the CBI court in Lucknow on April 14, 2018 | pti HC decision death for my family, says rape survivor The Unnao rape survivor said on Wednesday that the Delhi High Court’s decision to suspend convict Kuldeep Singh Sengar’s jail term in the 2017 case is kaal (death) for her family. “If the convict gets bail in a case like this, how will the country’s daughters remain safe? The LVM3-M6, also known as the Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV)-MkIII, is a three-stage rocket with a cryogenic engine designed and developed by ISRO’s Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre. It uses two S200 solid rocket boosters to provide enormous thrust required for the lift-off with heavier payloads. P7 accepted the ministry’s 100-metre proposal on November 20. According to sources, the blackbucks aged around two were shot dead by poachers. It is alleged that local forest officials got the autopsy of the dead animals done in a hurried manner on Tuesday evening to hush up the matter. People of the village suspect foul play as the blackbucks were found dead close to the anti-poaching camp at Basur. The villagers alleged that the forest officials did not register any case. They did not even inform the local media about the incident. Meanwhile, wildlife activists urged Forest Minister Eshwar Khandre to order a high-level investigation. DCFO Ramesh Babu told TNIE that the blackbucks were found dead on revenue land and the carcasses had bullet injuries. Veterinarians conducted the autopsy on Tuesday evening and the carcasses were burnt, he said. Investigations are on to trace the poachers.
