The couple was enjoying water sports when their boat was hit by a huge tide and overturned. The incident took place near the light house, over 20 metres inside the sea around 6 pm. Videos of the capsized speedboat that went viral showed lifeguards rushing to rescue the tourists using rubber tubes. Sources said the boat had a carrying capacity of 10 but the operators apparently allowed only 3-4 on board. It was also the last boat to go into the sea for the day . Arpita alleged the boat overturned as it had less passengers and the sea was rough. “I have decided to write to Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and the Puri SP requesting them to stop water sports as Puri has very rough sea,” she told PTI. She added the timely intervention of the lifeguards saved their lives. “We are verifying whether the operator has licence, was working legally and by following due procedures or not. Further action will be taken accordingly,” said Puri SP Vinit Agrawal. , PRIME Minister Narendra Modi on Monday revealed he waited 15 days after the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, hoping Pakistan will go after the assailants. “But it seems it (terrorism) is their bread and butter,” he remarked. Officials said the metropolis on Monday experienced the heaviest rainfall in the month of May since 1918, with the Colaba observatory recording rainfall of 295 mm. A large number of people protested at the spot, blaming the traffic police for the accident, following which three Assistant Sub-Inspectors were suspended. The victim Hrithiksha was the only daughter of Vanishree and Ashok and hailed from Goravanahalli village in Maddur taluk. Earlier in the day the girl was bitten by , a stray dog while playing near her home. Vanishree and her brother-in-law Baskar Gowda took the girl to the Maddur government hospital. The doctors there gave her first aid and then referred her to MIMS Hospital in Mandya owing to the unavailability of the required anti-rabies vaccine at Maddur. At around 10:30 am, the bike carrying Hrithiksha, her mother, and uncle was stopped by traffic police near Swarnasan- dra for riding without helmets. After Vanishree explained the medical urgency, the police allowed them to proceed. But just a few metres away another traf, fic policeman attempted to stop them again. In the confusion, Gowda lost control of the bike. While he fell to the left, Vanishree and Hrithiksha fell to the right, directly in the path of an oncoming truck. The truck ran over the child, resulting in fatal head injuries. The incident sparked public outrage. In a briefing to a parliamentary panel, Jaishankar clarified the timeline: Pakistan was notified about the strikes on terror camps in the early hours of May 7 — roughly 30 minutes after the operation concluded, he said. The remarks came in response to repeated allegations by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who accused Jaishankar of tipping off Pakistan prior to the strike. The government had earlier dismissed the claim as “misrepresentation of facts”. “The Foreign Secretary was briefed on the 1.30 am operation, which was followed by a Press Information Bureau statement. Thereafter, the DGMO told his counterpart in Pakistan about the operation,” Jaishankar said. In the meantime, the BJP termed the government’s decision as the start of another Emergency in the state. The defamation case will be filed before Bengaluru’s 42nd Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court against the BJP which released the “chargesheet” on , May 20 when the government completed two years of governance. During its campaign, the BJP alleged that the Congress government has failed on all fronts. The government termed the BJP’s campaign a false propaganda and decided to move the court against it. The government has appointed Kumata Prakash, deputy secretary (Department of Home - Law and Order), to coordinate with various departments to elicit information to help government prosecutors file the case. It has also appointed government prosecutors BS Patil and Shailaja Nayak to handle the legal proceedings. According to a notification issued by Prakash, the government has authorised the secretary Depart, ment of Personnel and Administrative Reforms, to file a complaint first.
