Eleven fans were dead and at least 33 were injured in a stampede outside the stadium. The condition of some of the injured was reported to be serious. The stampede occurred when an estimated 3 lakh-strong crowd gathered at the stadium to gain entry into the premises that had a capacity of just 35,000. This was following an announcement put out on RCB’s official social media handle about free entry passes. The first phase will begin on October 1, 2026 and be held in hilly and snow-hit areas of Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. The second phase will cover the rest of the country beginning March 1, 2027, the home ministry notification said. The exercise is going to be conducted after a delay of seven years, as the decennial census was to be conducted in 2021 but was postponed due to the Covid outbreak besides technical and administrative issues. “It has been decided to conduct Population Census-2027 in two phases along with enumeration of castes. The reference date for Population Census 2027 will be 00:00 hours of the first day of March, 2027,” the Ministry of Home Affairs said in an official release.
