It was only last month that the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) gave its nod for the production of Tejas Mk1A, the newer and improved version of India’s single-engine, 4.5 generation delta wing multirole combat aircraft designed by the Aeronautical Development Agency . Tejas Mk1A will play an important role in mitigating the decrease in the quantity of combat jets and the overall dip in the number of combat squadrons. The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) had given its approval in November 2023. Tejas is a multirole platform designed to undertake air defence, maritime reconnaissance and strike roles. The A day after violent protests in Ladakh killed four persons and injured many the Ministry of Home , Affairs (MHA) on Thursday cancelled the FCRA licence of Students’ Educational and Cultural Movement of Ladakh (SECMOL), founded by activist Sonam Wangchuk who was on hunger strike seeking special rights and statehood for the Union Territory . While cancelling the licence, the MHA cited several alleged discrepancies in the accounts of SECMOL, including a fund transfer from Sweden that was “against national interest”. M e a n wh i l e, t h e C B I h a s launched a probe into the alleged violations of the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act, or FCRA, nor ms, by SECMOL and the Himalayan Institute of Alternatives Ladakh (HIAL), also linked to Wangchuk. While no FIR has been registered, sources said CBI officials have been camping in Ladakh for the past week, scrutinising financial records of SECMOL and HIAL. The motion, proposed by the Omcar Foundation, received overwhelming support during electronic voting. Nearly 98% of countries and government agencies and 94.8% of NGOs, research institutions and organisations voted in favour. “The adoption is a significant global recognition of TN’s pioneering step. It reaffirms its leadership in marine conservation across South Asia,” Supriya Sahu, additional chief secretary, environment, forests and climate change department, told TNIE. TN declared the 448.34 sq km dugong conservation reserve in September 2022 under the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972. The reserve, the first of its kind in the country lies in , the northern Palk Bay, which harbours more than 12,250 hectares of seagrass meadows. Public vehicular movement through private property would not be “an effective, sustainable, longterm solution”, Premji replied in a letter addressed to the CM dated September 24. To curb traffic congestion at Iblur Junction on ORR, the CM had sought Wipro’s permission Wipro chairman Azim Premji and K’taka CM Siddaramaiah | PTI to allow limited vehicular movement through its campus. In his letter to Premji on September 19, the CM had said preliminary assessments by traffic and urban mobility experts indicate that if Wipro opens its campus to vehicular movement, it could reduce traffic on adjoining stretches by 30 per cent, particularly during peak office hours. “As stated in your letter, urgent measures are required for the traffic situation, along the Outer Ring Road. “The problem’s complexity, stemming from multiple factors, suggests that there is unlikely to be a single-point solution or a silver bullet to resolve it,” Premji said in the letter, adding, “We believe the ... path forward is to commission a comprehensive study led by an entity with world-class expertise in urban transport management.
