He gave inprinciple approval on Wednesday and the safari will open , in another two days. He said safaris were closed due to increasing man-animal conflict, to stop misuse of vehicles, prevent staffers being diverted from their duty and address more important issues. Safaris were suspended from November 7. Under the first trial phase, a maximum of 50 safari vehicles will be permitted per day Only . safari buses will be allowed, and timings have been trimmed from the earlier eight hours a day The number of trips each . vehicle makes has also been re- duced. Safari trips will start from 6.30am onwards, and will be permitted for five hours a day in Bandipur, six hours in Sunkadakatte and four hours in Nagarahole eco tourism zones. All vehicles will be fitted with GPS and trackers to track movements. The government announced this decision based on the report submitted by the technical committee constituted to oversee safari operations and man-animal conflict. The committee comprises the Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, officials from the Wildlife Institute of India, Indian Institute of Forest Management and an independent expert. Khandre said safaris are being opened in a phased manner during a month-long trial. During this period, the committee will examine the implications of opening safaris and submit its final report. According to a government resolution (GR) issued by the state social justice department on Tuesday night, a 5% reservation was granted to socially and educationally backward Muslim groups under the Special Backward Category in 2014 through an ordinance. However, this ordinance was not converted into a law by passing it through both Houses of the state legislature, and therefore, it has lapsed automatically . The government has cancelled the earlier decisions and circulars from 2014 and stopped issuing caste and non-creamy layer certificates to Muslims in the Special Backward Category , the GR stated. The ordinance was issued by the Congress-led government of Prithviraj Chavan ahead of the 2014 Lok Sabha and assembly elections, along with a 16% reservation to the Maratha community. The BJP came to power that year and the ordinance on Muslim reservation was not converted into law. The Congress on Wednesday accused the Devendra Fadnavis government of being against the welfare of minorities.
